About Us

My name is Ben Moffitt, and along with my wife Tasha, we are Moffitt Farms Registered Simmentals. I grew up in the community we now call home. Tasha and I have been married since we were 19 and 20 yrs old, and we've had many adventures together. In 2018, at the age of 50, I was forced to pivot when I lost my job as a database administrator of almost 26 years. I hated that job immensely. So instead of looking to get back into that  line of work, along with a little advice from my son Brad, I decided to do something I actually cared about. That's when Moffitt Farms took flight.  In 2021 Tasha ended her career as CPA and became co-owner, bookkeeper/tax accountant, vet tech, manual laborer, and gate opener.

From 2018 to 2024 we ran a commercial cow calf operation, running registered Simmental bulls  with cross bred cows. But as we got older,  running the number of cows needed for income got a little too much for us. In August of 2024 we switched gears again selling the majority of our cow calf operation (except a few that we made recips out of)  and decided to replace them  with registered Simmental. We sold our bulls and   began using artificial insemenation on all  our cows.  We gathered a few good cows when I had an epiphany that why not just run the most elite cows possible.  It took me awhile to get past the practice of buying quantities of cows to increase income to  buying fewer elite cows to accomplish the same end goal.

We chose Simmental breed based on my experience  with showing them in the early '80s.  I recognized thier growth and docility first hand. We starting buying the best cows we could afford along with elite embryos to start our herd. We went to AI school, adding AI tech to Tasha's job titles. Research was, and is now,  a large part of my job as genetic decisionmaker for Moffitt Farms. I study epds, sale catalogs  along with ASA's herdbook relentlessly with the goal of making the most elite cows possible combining high performance genetics with eye pleasing phenotypes.

I would like to take this time to thank Loomis Simmentals, Travis Wulf of Clear Springs Cattle Company and Jared Bielenberg of BAS  Ranch for allowing me to pick thier brains and bounce my ideas off of.

Future plans are to turn this over to our 3 grandchildren Joey, Violet, and Lilly if that's what they want.
